Every month, our restaurant received statements from DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, and our Clover POS — each with different formats, different fee structures, and different tax treatments. Converting these into correct journal entries took our CPA 4-10 hours per restaurant per month.
Worse, we discovered we were overpaying sales tax by $82 every month because the POS was inflating tax calculations on delivery orders with platform-funded discounts. That's over $1,000 per year in overpaid tax — from a single platform, at a single restaurant.
We also discovered that California's marketplace facilitator rules meant Uber Eats was remitting tax on our behalf, but DoorDash and Grubhub weren't. Without knowing this, we were either double-paying tax on Uber Eats orders or under-paying on DoorDash orders — depending on how our CPA filed.
We looked for a solution. Enterprise tools cost $500-2,000/month and required implementation teams. Nothing existed for independent restaurants and their CPAs. So we built Yukti.
